here it was, the rumoured courtyard. laid out before her was a place that she'd, shockingly, never been. it was a pretty good sized piece of land - a normal sized courtyard, fit to hold the many troubled patients. at the moment there weren't many patients residing in the unsurveillanced area. it was, perhaps, too cold for anyone to have a desire to sit out on the cold grass or a bench and take in the evening. that, and the fact that most people went to dinner as soon as they could so that they could get what was best before their choices ran slim. leah wasn't hungry though. she could wait until later and survive on the slim pickings.
leah had more privaledges than many of the other patients. being a level two she had less privaledges than level ones, yet more than level three and four. for one thing, she didn't have to be escorted around like the fours, and unlike the threes, she wasn't the main focus of attention usually. sure, she had to be checked on every now and then, but she wasn't going to get violent with anyone or go completely bonkers. their main concerns were that she'd burn down the place, or maybe follow a hallucination off the roof. she doubted that though. she was too smart for that sort of thing, too careful. however, that didn't really seem to matter because they still watched her belongings and made sure she was more than set on her meds. they didn't want her scaring patients with the words she heard or anything like that. not that leah could really scare anyone if she tried. startle perhaps, but not scare.
she had a brown messenger bag over her shoulder which occasionally bounced on her hip with her stride. unlike on many occasions, she was able to go about without wearing the hideous patient clothing. instead she wore old dark jeans that were getting worn on the knee, and were tucked into her UGG boots which were folded over. Despite the chill she wore a thin, white, long sleeved shirt. Her blonde hair was tied back in a messy, loose bun, her angled side bangs falling over her face. her bright blue eyes shined, dancing in the glow of the setting sun. beautiful. it was very beautiful.
leah went over to a corner of the empty courtyard, and set her belongings down. she had her way of getting her hands on what she wanted. out of her bag she pulled out a bundle of small sticks and twigs, tied together with a piece of twine she found. it must've been odd to see her picking up sticks from days before, but now she was happy. she didn't care if she had looked like a fool before because now she had the provisions to make a small fire. she took a quarter of the bundle and broke all of the twigs in half. she knew how to care for a fire and set it up, but having no real desire to arrange the sticks, she just left them there in a small heap. out of her bag she also drew out a little box of matches, which she replaced with the remaining bundle of sticks that she had retied together. striking a match, she slowly placed it in the pile, enjoying the heat licking at her fingertips. sitting down beside the small flames, she leaned her back against the courtyard wall.
the heat kissed her rosy cheeks as she watched it slowly burn, the twigs dwindling. her blue eyes would watch the flames, the ground, and then up to the sky. occasionally she'd make sure that no security guard checked in. it was so peaceful. perhaps it was a little too peaceful for an insane asylum.

Trust me, there's no need to fear, everyone's here. waiting for you to finally be one of us COME DOWN, YOU MAY BE FULL OF FEAR. BUT YOU'LL BE SAFE HERE when you finally trust me finally believe in me - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - With a bit of a chuckle he lost his guards. He always found it incredibly amusing that they could lose him so easily when it was their job to keep him in check. Then again he wondered if maybe, just maybe they wanted to set him lose so he could get rid of some of the excess baggage around here. After all who wanted to keep watch of people who always felt the world was on their shoulders. The Woe is me attitude always offended the man and made him want to ram reality up the persons ass. Everyone was a wild card, everyone had lost something and gained other thing but the downward spiral was only meant for the weak and he, he was strong.
Making sure he was not followed he began to walk,or rather skulk around the outside of the building. He knew the place rather well since he'd been there a while now but he never had a problem with meeting new 'guests' or fresh meat as he preferred to call them in his head. He always did enjoy having fun with the ones who he didn't know. Straightening up he continued his walk towards the courtyard. As most patients he was aware of it being quite secluded ad unguarded. Sure he'd had to outrun a few guards but it didn't mean he'd let them find him that quickly so he made his way towards the place, not really expecting to find some fun.
But fu he did find as he approached the familiar scent of burning tickled his senses and brought him back to a time where he'd set countless people on fire just for fun and revenge. But this, this was not the scent of burning flesh this was something much more common. He could hear the snapping of twigs as he continued to approach and lean his head to glance slightly at the scene. There was a girl, pretty little thing with her back to him glancing nervously about. His smile widened slightly as his eyes surveyed her petite form. Light blond hair seemed to sway in the light breeze but her eyes were far to attached to the fire to even begin to notice his approach.
Walking towards her he made sure not to make any sounds, he didn't want his presence known just yet. He wanted to scare her or startle her in the least. He began to hatch a plan though, a much more devious one in comparison to his others. The tendency to have people fear you at first glance would not help so instead he took on a rather different tactic and spoke. "I wonder what the guards would say if they saw that," he said quietly in a amused ad hushed tone awaiting a reaction to his now new game.

she could've been kidnapped right then and there, gagged, tied up and thrown in the back of a pick up, and she wouldn't realize it until it happened. she was too entranced with the fire and once that got dull (which took some time) she looked at the sky which was a watercolor of pastel colors. is wished she could just hold it in her hand and hang it on her wall. it didn't sound like that bad of an idea, she did have her camera tucked away in her bag for such occasions. leah would wait though. there were times when the sunset was even better. she would be patient and wait until parts of the sky was dark and freckled with light stars. at that time it would be perfect. for now, the fire was more than enough company.
she kind of felt that the calmness was too opposite of what would be expected of alkaline. she expected something to just pop up as it usually did. she waited for a hallucination, something that would remind her what she was like and her purpose for sitting in the courtyard with that fire. well, the fire in and of itself was quite the reminder. miss mini pyromaniac she was. so it wasn't like everything was completely unbalanced. as pointed out previously, it was meal time, and she was sure it was a long day for many people. leah would settle with the facts for now and not let them bother her.
at the voice leah jumped slightly. she hadn't heard the man approaching and his voice was a startling change in the silence that was only broken by the crackling of the flames eating the twigs. leah turned to see the boy who was definately older than her by at least a few years. something inside of her screamed LOVELY BONES! it was a book she had read a while ago, and she had greatly enjoyed it. however, it was kind of depressing and a little scary. a middleaged man had gotten a girl alone and proceeded to rape and murder her. she was in an asylum, it could be very possible. leah pushed that thought out of her mind. it wasn't something she was looking forward to.
"i guess they wouldn't be too happy about it," she admitted, but leah didn't make a move to put it out. the place wasn't monitored, and surely this man knew that. leah just shrugged however, and surveyed the man up and down. she was trying to decide whether or not she should be concerned for her well being. she couldn't decide if she would have the fate of susie from THE LOVELY BONES, or if this man was only here because of something less drastic than murder and rape obsessions. she was hoping for the latter, but couldn't be too sure. he was definately taller than her, had a good strong build, and she figured he would be the type to like being in control. at the same time, however, she could see him possibly being a brotherly type. he was either a good guy, or a bad guy. if he was a good guy, she didn't really mind the situation of them being alone together, if he wasn't, then she probably wouldn't enjoy his presence. leah being naiive in her naiive sort of way, she figured it was only fair to give him a chance for one thing, and also she was patient so maybe he just needed some time. she wasn't one to jump to conclusions.

Trust me, there's no need to fear, everyone's here. waiting for you to finally be one of us COME DOWN, YOU MAY BE FULL OF FEAR. BUT YOU'LL BE SAFE HERE when you finally trust me finally believe in me - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She jumped and he could not help a chuckle. He was used to people being jumpy around him for obvious reasons and yet the game he was concocting in his mind would be much more fun if she had no clue just exactly who he was. Arching a brow he watched her turn. She was so very young, then again people were easier to manipulate when young. Even he knew that. Contrary to her thoughts rape was definitely not on the agenda. He may have been psychotic and a killer, but he wasn't really into pedophilia. The though actually made him gag a little.
Now, mind games on the other hand were fair game. The fire cackled as the twigs twitched, withered and faded away under the unruly flames. He always did like fire, it calmed his soul almost as much as sedation did. But he liked uncontrolled fires the best, especially when followed by the scent of burning flesh and loud screams of despair in the air. "i guess they wouldn't be too happy about it," Her voice was small and soprano, quite the contrast to his own. "You'd end up in detention faster than you could blink I'd say..." he added in his usual calm tone.
He was being nice, like a quiet game of cat and mouse where the mouse has no idea the kitty has giant razor sharp claws underneath. If there was one thing Jack had loads of, it was patience ad he would take his time with this one. Making sure she felt safe ad secure before pushing her turmoil ridden little mind over the edge. It would be a fun game... something to help pass the time before the guards finally caught up to him and his plans... "Names Jack, by the way..." he added as an after thought as he sat down and got comfortable, for he knew this would take a while.
He really didn't care for her name, maybe she'd end up being subject number thirteen to him. Though he had tested his games with a few, they usually either started fearing him from the beginning or didn't last more than a round with the man. He liked being feared and had yet to find someone he couldn't break with words. Violence was ever a last resort but it was a later stage in his fun. The only time he had let out his full wrath was with the guys who lead to his sisters suicide. Ad each and every one of them had deserved everything he had done. Stretching a bit he looked from the flames back to the girl, awaiting some sort of response to his introduction.

leah just nodded slightly to show that she agreed with his comment for her punishment as well as heard what he had said. he was right, she'd probably be sent to detention without a second thought. then she'd really feel like something bad was going to happen. normally she wouldn't feel this way however, it was just because he decided to pop up earlier that day before her meds. and no, he wasn't jack, he happened to be one of her reasons for being here. being schizophrenic meant that she hallucinated (heard voices, saw things, the works) and she had one that was the only negative thing she saw or heard. he was unnamed but he constantly told her of how she would die, and he showed her torture scenes. he was a very... unpleasant 'side effect'. thus, she was slightly more jumpy than she normally would be, and that was the reason she thought of THE LOVELY BONES with such grim thoughts. she knew that he wasn't going to show up because she had taken her meds to make her stop seeing things. sadly, that didn't erase the knowledge of him.
jack. jack was his name and it seemed to fit. when she thought of jack she thought of TITANIC and leonardo dicaprio. TITANIC jack wasn't in an asylum however, and this jack that was before her didn't seem the type that would float in freezing water to let a girl sit on some wood and hopefully not freeze to death. then again... people could be surprising and maybe he was just as much a charming lad as the character leo had played. that wasn't leah's place to judge, at least not yet.
"i'm leah," she introduced herself with a smile. some people liked handshakes, her dad did. at alkaline however, leah shook off her old habbits of handshaking and just said her name. not many people, at least not many her age, were into handshakes. she saved those for her parents' friends and other high class citizen they may converse with. besides, at alkaline nobody knew how anyone was to react to it. in order to avoid unwanted, possible to happen conflict, leah changed the subject without even thinking twice about a handshake. "so why are you out here and not eating dinner with the rest of... them?" she asked. she didn't really know what to call 'them' because calling them 'crazies' would be hypocritical because she knew she was now classified as one. also, not all of them were actually clinically insane. some just had behaviour issues, or something of the sort. she also didn't want to say patients because they weren't necessarily ill in some cases. so using 'them' seemed to cover all boundaries.
